Get Hooked on the South Nation River on July 8!
Join South Nation Conservation (SNC) on July 8, 2017 at the Jessup’s Falls Conservation Area for SNC’s annual Family Fun Fishing Derby!
The Derby will begin at 10:00 am and wrap up at 2:00 pm. It will be a FREE fun-filled day of fishing, prizes, BBQ, games, and more!
Jessup’s Falls Conservation area is located at 6675 Highway 17, Plantagenet, Ontario.
“Once beyond the busy highway, it is easy to see why Jessup’s Falls is a favourite spot for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts,” said Holly Nyenkamp, SNC’s Communications and Outreach Assistant. “This popular fishing paradise is home to many game fish and boasts outcroppings of rock; perfect for casting.” Spread across 12.8 acres, the park features River access for ice, small-boat, fly, and shoreline fishing; boat launching; and an accessible dock.
Derby participants will learn about proper shoreline fishing techniques, fish identification, fish weighing and measuring, and more! There will be prizes for the biggest and smallest fish caught.
“SNC’s Family Fun Fishing Derby is always well-attended. It’s a great hands-on learning experience of the thriving South Nation River fishery,” added Nyenkamp.
Coinciding with the License-free Family Fishing week, participants do not have to worry about obtaining a fishing license for the event. A limited amount of fishing rods will be available to borrow at the event.
SNC also offers annual Youth Fish Camps free of charge. This year’s camps will be taking place on July 5 and 6 at Cass Bridge Conservation Area and High Falls Conservation Area on July 19 and 20. Geared towards youth ages 10 to 15, the camps are fully booked for this year; call SNC today to reserve a spot for 2018!
