SNC Works with Municipal Partners to Groom Over 30 km of Trails this Winter
South Nation Conservation (SNC) invites residents and visitors to enjoy their network of trails that remain open throughout the winter season at local Conservation Areas.
“The groomed trails offer packed snow, facilitating a variety of winter activities including, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, on-leash dog-walking, birding, and geocaching,” mentioned Philip Duncan, SNC’s Property and Approvals Assistant.
Winter grooming takes place at the following locations: Robert Graham near Glen Stewart, Warwick Forest in Berwick, J. Henry Tweed and W.E. Burton in Russell, Two Creeks Forest near Morrisburg, and Nokomis Park in Limoges.
In addition to Conservation Areas, SNC works with municipal partners to keep a number of parks and trails groomed, helping to increase winter recreational opportunities across the region.
SNC also partners with Russell Township to groom a part of the New York Central Fitness Trail from Russell to Embrun.
The combined total of all groomed trails is approximately 30 km. For more information on winter recreational opportunities and directions to each park with groomed trails, visit: www.nation.on.ca/recreation/winter-recreation.
“Last year over 64,000 people enjoyed our network of 14 day-use Conservation Areas, free of charge,” added Duncan. “Organized group activities are welcome and occur regularly, we encourage nature enthusiasts to respect the habitat and wildlife, and stick to the trails.”
