SNC Hosts Inaugural St. Lawrence River Student Summit in 2017
On October 16-18, 2017, nearly 100 Grade 11 and 12 high school students were brought together for three exciting days of discovery, innovation, and collaboration.
Hosted in partnership with Ontario’s Ministry of Education and the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, the Summit provided students with the opportunity to experience their local environment and discover the challenges that environmentalists face in managing natural resources in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River basin.
Environmental and educational programming included invasive species removal, interpretive hikes, water quality testing, a boat cruise along the St. Lawrence River, and a leadership certification course. On the final day of the Summit, student groups shared their innovative ideas to an environmental challenge with a panel of St. Lawrence River decision-makers.
