WATERSHED CONDITIONS: WATER SAFETY STATEMENT
This statement is an update to the Water Safety Statement issued on April 11, 2018.
Weather Forecast: A significant weather system carrying a mix of snow, rain, and freezing rain is forecasted to cross Ontario. More than 25 mm of rainfall is expected over this weekend and into next week.
Environmental Conditions: Water levels across South Nation Conservation’s (SNC) jurisdiction are rising due to the recent rainfall. Local rain gauges have recorded 5-12 mm of rainfall since Wednesday, April 11, 2018.
Risks: The significant amount of forecasted precipitation over the next 5 days may produce increased runoff due to high soil moisture conditions and possible nuisance flooding in low-lying areas across SNC’s jurisdiction.
ACTION: Residents are advised to exercise caution when near rivers as the forecasted weather may rapidly increase river flows and cause slippery river banks. Parents are encouraged to explain these dangers to their children.
Duration: This statement is in effect until Friday, April 20, 2018.
SNC monitors the water levels and weather forecasts as part of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Program. Updates are provided as conditions change.
